First, the specificity of research for a circular economy is introduced addressing the increased need for knowledge synthesis that typically requires knowledge from multiple disciplines such as engineering and management. Then, several examples of research with knowledge synthesis are presented, including adaptive and intelligent lifecycle engineering. Second, the speaker will point out the lack of global perspectives in the extant research on this topic, despite the issues being global – see UN SDG 12. He will share insights on sustainability research based on practices in both the global north and south, and thereby discuss the needs of extended system boundaries for global supply chains and required future research.

Keynote IV: Tuesday, July 18, 2023, 12:20 – 1:00 pm

Vânia Gomes
Director of Quality and Food Safety and Assistant to the production management
Chocolates Excelsior Company
Lisbon, Portugal

Vânia Gomes has a BSc. in Food Engineering, an MSc. in Quality Engineering, a postgraduation in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), and an advanced specialization in Quality and Food Safety.
