The implementation of I40 has been proved to be beneficial for lean programs, supporting lean practices and increasing the flexibility of lean.

i-FAB is a learning factory developed in 2016 by Università Carlo Cattaneo (LIUC) to demonstrate the benefit of the adoption of I40 technologies in a lean managed assembly system. The i-FAB environment is a production department within an approximate area of 230 m2, where foosballs are assembled and disassembled with real factory tools implementing the concepts of lean production and I40. The process is based on lean production principles: safety, process stability, total quality, just in time and continuous improvement. Seven I40 enabling technologies are implemented in i-FAB: Internet of Things (IoT), Horizontal and Vertical Integration, Big Data, Data Analytics, Collaborative Robots, Additive Manufacturing, Simulation and Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality. In the following, details on the application of each technology to the assembly system are provided.

Training modules have been developed for Industrial Engineering and Management students and executive learning programs. From the application of these modules empirical evidence of the benefits linked to the implementation of I40 technologies in a lean managed assembly system can be highlighted.

Speaker III – 9:00 – 9:30 am

Dr. Riccardo Patriarca
Tenure Track Assistant Professor
Resilience Engineering | Forbes 30u30 EU
Sapienza Università di Roma
Rome, Latium, Italy

Plenary II

July 27, 2022 – 8:00 am – 9:30 am
Room 1 (Onsite)

Session Chair:

Speaker IV – 8:00 – 8:30 am

Speaker V – 8:30 – 9:00 am

ID 468 Analysis of Work-Related Accidents in Italian Landfills

Mara Lombardi, Francesca Mauro and Quintilio Napoleoni, Sapienza – University of Rome, Italy

Mario Fargnoli, Universitas Mercatorum, Rome, Italy

Simona Berardi, Italian Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL), Rome, Italy

Speaker VI – 9:00 – 9:30 am

Prof. Andrea D’Ariano
Associate Professor
Department of Engineering
Roma Tre University
Rome, Italy

Andrea D’Ariano received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science and Automation Engineering at Roma Tre University.
