Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman

Md. Abdur Rahman serves as the Pro Vice Chancellor of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). In 2013, he achieved his PhD in wireless communications from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. His educational background also includes BSc Engineering and M.E. degrees earned from American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, respectively.
His current research interests span various areas such as cognitive radio, bioinformatics, wireless systems, and ICT. Dr. Rahman conducted postdoctoral research in the field of Bio-informatics at the School of Engineering and IT at Federation University Australia.
He holds esteemed memberships as a Life Fellow of IEB and a senior member of IEEE. In addition, he possesses a professional engineer (P. Engg.) certification, as well as an ABC electrical supervisory license. During his doctoral studies, he led a diverse team comprising both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Together, they designed an emergency wireless network and participated in four international research competitions, securing notable achievements. Noteworthy awards earned by the team include the Wireless Innovation Smart Radio Challenge, the IEEE President’s Change the World Outstanding Humanitarian Award, the IEEE DSPS Best Student Presentation Award, and the IEEE Tokyotech Best Paper Award.
Presently residing in Dhaka, Bangladesh, he is dedicated to enhancing teaching and learning methodologies and introducing innovative assessment tools. Dr. Rahman plays an active role in the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) as an evaluator, having successfully completed 13 accreditation evaluations as Chair or member of the team. Moreover, he is a member of the Quality Assurance Cell (QAC) of BAETE.

Dr. Quamrul Mazumder is currently a professor of mechanical engineering at University of Michigan-Flint. His areas of research include computational and experimental fluid mechanics, quality in higher education, metacognition, motivation, and engagement of faculty and students, assessment and accreditation. He is actively involved in experimental techniques in multiphase flow using particle image velocimetry (PIV). Dr. Mazumder also served as a Fulbright scholar in developing curriculum and assessment process for a developing country. He has developed several global collaborations and currently involved in a number of projects in different countries. Dr. Mazumder received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Bangladesh Agricultural University, his M.S. from South Dakota State University, his MBA from Oklahoma State University, and his Ph.D. from The University of Tulsa.

Under his business supervision & leadership, his team has successfully launched new series of laptops, tablets, desktops, AIO, computer accessories, routers, access control devices, smart weight scale, speakers, smart watch, printer, CC camera, ventilator etc., which has added a new milestone for Bangladesh IT industry. He has developed new models of SCM process for IT products manufacturing, vendor verification & automation system, inventory & production automation, SMT line establishment, and so on. Constant R&D is going for some new segments of products as well, like E-BIKE, Hybrid Solar Inverter. He is leading a company with over 2000 employees currently working in different departments. His focus to develop an eco-friendly society makes him to think about EV two-wheeler product development as well as renewable energy related products manufacturing in Bangladesh. His vision is to build a more advanced, sustainable, and environment-friendly society through the combination of advanced technologies and industry-leading products which will be made in Bangladesh.

Dr. Matiar R. Howlader began his academic journey with a B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Khulna University, Bangladesh in 1988. He furthered his education with an M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from Kyushu University, Japan by 1999. Prior to 2005, he made significant contributions in materials science and engineering as an Endowed Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at McMaster University, Canada. At the heart of Dr. Howlader’s research is the design and development of innovative materials and components, with a particular emphasis on nanomaterials-based electrochemical sensors for health, environmental, and energy applications. A cornerstone of his work is the integration of flexible and hard materials using surface-activated nanobonding (SAB). As he advances in his field, Dr. Howlader’s mission is to fine-tune these technologies, aiming for integrated sensor platforms and personalized healthcare biosensor systems. His forward-thinking approach also explores the potential of artificial neural networks in analyzing disease biomarkers.

Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Morshed is currently a fulltime professor in the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering at the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology. Dr. Morshed holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from CUET and a master’s in industrial management from KU Leuven. Later he obtained his PhD degree from Birmingham University, UK. He has published 38 articles in several journal and conferences. Dr. Morshed developed Multi-objective knowledge-based scheduling techniques using genetic algorithm (GA) for cancer patients in dynamic situation along with hybrid GA framework for industrial and service scheduling. Dr. Morshed has affiliations with HEA (UK), OR Society, IEOM Society and IEB.

Prof. Dr. Md. Mamun Habib is a Professor & Head of the Management Department at the School of Business & Entrepreneurship (SBE), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). He is a Visiting Scientist at the Dept. of Industrial Engineering of the University of Texas – Arlington, USA. He is also a Visiting Professor at Unirazak, Malaysia; UCSI, Malaysia; PUP, Philippines; Beijing Wuzi University, China; and Universitas Ciputra, Indonesia. He is involved in Ph.D. supervision locally and internationally. He supervises ten (10) Ph.D. scholars locally and globally and eleven (11) Ph.D. scholars have been awarded. He has over 22 years of experience in teaching, training, workshops, consultancy, and research.
Dr. Habib has published about 250 research publications, including conference proceedings, journal articles, and book chapters/books. Among them, more than 80 articles are Web of Science and Scopus Indexed. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief/Editorial Board Member of more than 50 journals. He delivers Keynote speeches at 80+ international conferences in various countries. He conducted 200+ Webinars/Workshops locally and internationally. He accomplished his Ph.D. and M.S. with outstanding performance in Computer & Engineering Management (CEM) from Assumption University, Thailand. His core research areas are supply chain management, production & operations management, research methodology, and educational management.
Prof. Habib is an active member of different professional organizations, including IEEE (Senior Member); IEOM (President, SCM Technical Division); Chartered Fellow (FCILT), and CILT International (UK) just to name a few. He is involved with the QS World University Ranking/Times Higher Education Ranking as an academician. He is also connected with the industry as a Consultant at AmCham (American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh), USAID, BAFFA, and so on.

After completion of higher secondary education in Bangladesh, Ashik joined Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), Cambridge, UK for studying engineering. In 2015 he gained BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering and subsequently attained MSc. Engineering Management (2017) and PhD (2021) from the same University.
Dr Ashik’s PhD integrated the techniques of business process re-engineering and genetic algorithm to design a method to transform structured data into smart structured data for business process interdependence quantification and optimisation. He has taught at different Universities primarily in operations and supply chain management, business process modelling and simulations, business process and system analysis, digital transformation, and strategic management.
Prior to joining Birmingham City University (BCU) Ashik worked as a research assistant for Engineering Analysis Simulation and Tribology (EAST) research group (2017-2018) at ARU and as a technician in proactive control, quality, and evaluation protocol design for manufacturing SMEs and HEIs collaboration towards a common PhD path for the European Union (2018-2021). He had collaborated and worked with the number of Universities and manufacturing farms in Greece, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and the UK. He also works as consultant for process optimisation and digital transformation.
His approach to teaching emphasises the technology enabled simulated learning environment and practical implementation.

Dr. Mohammad Iqbal is currently serving as a Professor at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) under the Department of Industrial and Production. Professor Iqbal obtained his Bachelor of Technology (Mechanical) from Sri Venkateshwara University, College of Engineering, Tirupati, Andre Pradesh, India and M.Sc. Engineering from the department of Industrial and Production Engineering, BUET, Dhaka in 1989 and 1993 respectively. He received his Ph.D. from Dublin City University, Dublin, Republic of Ireland in 2000. Professor Iqbal served as a visiting research scholar at Mary O’ Connor Process Safety Center, Texas A & M University, College Station, Texas, USA in the year 2018. He is the founder lecturer of the Department of Industrial and Production, SUST. He served as the Head of the department for 13 years and Dean of School of Applied Science and Technology for two years. He was the Head of Petroleum and Mineral Engineering Department Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Bangladesh for one year. He has 30 years of industrial, research and teaching experiences. Professor Iqbal’s present research interest includes Virtual Reality, Ergonomics, Industrial safety and risk management, Supply chain management, Renewable energy and Production system analysis and Climate change and environment. He has more than 100 International publications in conference proceedings and peer review journals. He is a co-author of three engineering books namely Surveying, Engineering Materials and Industrial Health, Safety & Welfare. He is a life member of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh. He was the honorary secretary of the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) Sylhet Centre, Sylhet, Bangladesh during 2018-2019. Dr. Iqbal was the Conference Chair of IEOM Society -Bangladesh Chapter held in December 2019. He was the Chair of IEOM Society – Bangladesh Chapter from March 2018 – February 2020. Professor Iqbal conducted many training programs, seminars, workshops and symposiums at home and abroad. He has been involved in several research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh and SUST Research Center, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh. Professor Iqbal received International and National Awards on research papers presented at different International Conferences home and abroad.

Ms. Rupali Biwas has been working in Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) since 2007 in the Productivity Improvement Cell (PIC) under the Institute of Apparel Research & Technology (iART). And currently working as Additional Secretary, PIC at BKMEA.
She has gone under extensive trainings and courses – Completed about 2 Years on job training under “Productivity Improvement Program (PIP), BKMEA” with special focus on “Lean Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering” under Dr. Charles Dagher, Founder, Director, Author, and International Expert of Dagher & Partners (D&P), Dagher Consulting Group (DCG), and Dagher Institute for Professionals (DIP) at BKMEA, Dhaka from 2007 to 2009. She also trained on Fabric Optimization & Cutting Technology, Industrial Engineering, Production Planning & Quality Assurance System by Razvan Ionele, Technical Garmenting Consultant in Textile Industry, GHERZI Garmenting Textile Institute, Manchester UK under UNIDO BWTG Program funded by EU & NORAD for two years from 2012 to 2013. She is a very renowned trainer and coach in the RMG industry of the country. She is also recognized for her in-depth knowledge and expertise in this sector.
From May 2015 to March 2024 around 9 years she was engaged as Chief Coordinator of Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) of Tranche-1, 2 & 3 at BKMEA, this was the Finance Division, Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh and Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded project. She was responsible to ensure the overall effectiveness of skills training programs by planning, managing, coordinating and implementing the activities undertaken for skills training in different training institutions to achieve the officially acknowledge training and job placement targets for BKMEA. Under this project she with her team implemented skill training program for different areas like Graduate training Program (New entrant), Factory based Up-skilling Training Program & Operator Training Program (New Entrant) in BKMEA Own & Outsourced training Institute. Under this project a total of 56,721 trainees trained in different field and most of them were placed in gainful Jobs. Currently she is doing well with other projects & activities at BKMEA.

Engr. Khaja Moyen Uddin is a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in the steel manufacturing industry. Mr. Khaja currently serves as the General Manager (Plant Head) at METROCEM ISPAT Ltd. He specializes in the planning, design, erection, commissioning, production and maintenance of the steel industry. Mr. Khaja began his career in steel manufacturing in 2010 as a Plant Engineer at Famous Steel & Re-Rolling Mills Ltd., followed by a position as Assistant General Manager at Sakura Steel Ltd. in 2012. He joined Metrocem Ispat Ltd. as Deputy General Manager (Plant Head) in 2014 and has been serving as General Manager (Plant Head) since 2016. With vast experience in the steel manufacturing sector, he has successfully planned, designed and completed four major projects and developed several dynamic teams in areas such as erection and commissioning, production and maintenance, quality control and inventory, transport and distribution. One of his notable achievements is the independent development of a costeffective business model for METROCEM ISPAT Ltd., overseeing everything from planning and design to commercial operation. By employing Direct Hot Rolling method, his innovative approach resulted in a 25% reduction in production costs compared to traditional methods. Khaja holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET). He is an active member of the Industrial Advisory Panel, Department of Mechanical Engineering, International University of Business Agriculture & Technology (IUBAT). In addition to his professional achievements, Khaja is passionate about staying updated on new technologies and applying innovative solutions to address critical problems.

Dr. Latifur Khan is currently a full Professor (tenured) in the Computer Science department at the University of Texas at Dallas, USA where he has been teaching and conducting research since September 2000. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California (USC) in August of 2000. Dr. Khan received IEEE Big Data Security Senior Research Award, in May 2019, and SIRI (Society of Information Reuse and Integration) award in August 2018. He has received prestigious awards including the IEEE Technical Achievement Award for Intelligence and Security Informatics and IBM Faculty Award (research) 2016. Recently, he has become a Fellow of British Computer Society (BCS), and Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Dr. Latifur Khan has published over 300 papers in premier journals such as VLDB, Journal of Web Semantics, IEEE TDKE, IEEE TDSC, IEEE TSMC, and AI Research and in prestigious conferences such as AAAI, IJCAI, CIKM, ICDE, ACM GIS, IEEE ICDM, IEEE BigData, ECML/PKDD, PAKDD, ACM Multimedia, ACM WWW, ICWC, ACM SACMAT, IEEE ICSC, IEEE Cloud and INFOCOM. He has been invited to give keynotes and invited talks at a number of conferences hosted by IEEE and ACM. In addition, he has conducted tutorial sessions in prominent conferences such as SIGKDD 2017, 2016, IJCAI 2017, AAAI 2017, SDM 2017, PAKDD 2011 & 2012, DASFAA 2012, ACM WWW 2005, MIS2005, and DASFAA 2007. Currently, he is serving as an associate editor of ACM transaction on Internet Technology (TOIT), ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data (TKDD) and IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence.
Currently, Dr. Khan’s research area focuses on big data management and analytics, data mining and its application over cyber security, complex data management including geo-spatial data and multimedia data. His research has been supported by grants from NSF, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), DOE, NSA, NIST, IBM and HPE.

Muhammad Noor E Alam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, a Core AI Faculty Member at the Institute for Experiential AI and the Director of the Decision Analytics Lab at Northeastern University. Dr. Alam also holds an affiliated associate professor position (courtesy appointment) at the Khoury College of Computer Science, a faculty associate position at the Centre for Health Policy and Healthcare Research, and an affiliated faculty position at both the Global Resilience Institute and the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs. Prior to joining Northeastern, Dr. Alam was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He completed his PhD in Engineering Management in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta (UofA) and received a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Industrial and Production Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET). Before coming to UoA, he served as a faculty member in the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering at BUET. Dr. Alam is a recipient of a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award (2021). He served as a board member of the Logistics and Supply Chain division of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) from 2018 to 2020. Currently, Dr. Alam serves as an associate editor of INFORMS Journal on Computing and INFORMS Journal on Applied Analytics and as the Chair of the Academic and Students Community of Practice Committee for the IISE Society for Health Systems. His former students have accepted academic, scientist, and engineering positions at leading institutions, including the University of Florida, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and Intel.
