The IEOM Lean Six Sigma Competition will recognize outstanding case studies in the area of lean and six sigma. Selected papers will be considered for the competition and must be presented at the conference. The paper will be judged based on the technical content and presentation. Winners will receive award certificates.
IEOM Lean Six Sigma Competition focuses on the following areas, but not limited to:
- DMAIC-based process improvement projects
- Lean waste reduction (Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Overprocessing, Defects)
- Six Sigma quality improvement and defect reduction
- Process capability analysis and statistical process control (SPC)
- Root cause analysis and problem solving
- Value stream mapping (current and future state)
- Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives
- Standard work and process standardization
- Lean manufacturing systems
- Total productive maintenance (TPM)
- Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) improvement
- Setup reduction / SMED applications
- 5S workplace organization and visual management
- Poka-yoke (error proofing) applications
- Cycle time and lead time reduction
- Productivity and efficiency improvement
- Cost reduction through Lean Six Sigma
- Quality engineering and process optimization
- Design of experiments (DOE) applications
- Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)
- Statistical analysis for process improvement
- Service Lean Six Sigma applications
- Healthcare Lean Six Sigma applications
- Supply chain and logistics improvement using Lean Six Sigma
- Digital Lean, and data-driven process improvement
- Sustainability and green Lean Six Sigma projects
- Human factors and change management in improvement projects
- Project selection and financial impact validation
- Integration of Lean, Six Sigma, and operational excellence
- Strategic deployment of Lean Six Sigma in organizations
Eligibility Criteria:
- Case study must be related to real-life applications
- Practitioners or academicians can join the competition
- Papers can be industry projects as part of a course or co-op/internship, or research projects done at the academic institution.
- The paper must be presented virtually.
IEOM Competition Rubrics
- Overall content: 1-5 points
- Data analysis and results: 1-5 points
- Presentation skills: 1-5 points
- Knowledge of the topic / confident: 1-5 points
- Answering questions: 1-5 points

Paper Guidelines:
Authors must follow the IEOM paper guidelines (under Authors menu) since the winning papers will be published in the conference proceedings.

Judging:
A group of academics / professionals will serve as judge. Scoring rubrics will be used for both parts of the judging.
Winners:
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive award certificates.
Publication and Indexing – Proceedings
- Papers will be published in the proceedings with DOI at IEOM Index. Your papers will be in open access with ISSN and ISBN.
IEOM Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Each paper must present a significant research contribution, encompassing:
- Motivation of the Research: Clearly state the relevance of the research and its importance within the field.
- Problem Statements and Objectives: Identify the specific problem(s) addressed and outline clear, measurable objectives.
- Literature Review: Provide a comprehensive review of relevant research to establish the context and background.
- Data: Describe the data sources, collection methods, and any preprocessing steps undertaken.
- Methods: Detail the methodologies used, including the rationale behind their selection.
- Results: Include both numerical and graphical results, effectively presenting key findings.
- Statistical Analysis and Hypothesis Tests: Perform appropriate statistical tests to validate findings, presenting results with proper interpretation.
- Research Validation: Demonstrate that each objective has been met through quantitative or qualitative analysis, confirming the reliability of the results.
- Technical Writing Quality: Ensure the paper is well-written, free from spelling and grammatical errors, and follows a clear, logical structure.
Each paper and its abstract must strictly adhere to the IEOM Template for consistent formatting, including fonts, headings, and layout.
