IEOM 2014

Welcome

The IEOM Forum Organizing Committee welcomes you to the Fourth International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM). The conference provides a forum for academics, researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas and recent developments in the field of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management. The conference provides an opportunity to network, collaborate and advance theory and practice as well as to identify major trends in Industrial Engineering and Operations Management.

After the peer review process, we accepted about 450 papers/abstracts from about 600 submissions from 70 countries. The proceeding includes many cutting edge topics of industrial engineering and operations research. All full papers are published in the proceeding after thorough a double blind peer-review.

The challenge of continuous improvement will be significant in the 21st century. This conference will address the issue of continuous improvement for quality and service. Perhaps the most important example of this issue is the current financial crisis that not only represents extraordinary challenges, but may well represent important opportunities for future industrial growth and new directions.  We have selected six outstanding keynote speakers from Australia, Indonesia, Finland, Singapore and the USA.

New this year, is the Global Engineering Education at the IEOM 2014 Conference. There are different levels of readiness of engineering graduates from various parts of the world. One of the main themes of this series is how to reduce the readiness gap around the world. The special focus is given to Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering including Engineering Management. Are the engineering graduates ready to take on the challenges of the current global economy? Distinguished speakers will discuss the readiness of engineering graduates for workface around the world. Thirty featured speakers are from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, China, India, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, UAE, UK and USA. We have arranged an array of outstanding technical presentations that are listed in the conference program.

This year's conference venue is Bali, Indonesia. This exceptional location lies between the islands of Java and Lombok and is one of more than 17,000 islands that makes up the Indonesian Archipelago. Bali is small, stretching approximately 140 km from east to west and 80 km from north to south. Slightly off center, and running east to west, are a string of volcanic mountains. Bali boasts a tropical climate with just two seasons, wet and dry, a year and an average annual temperature of around 28°C. The rich volcanic soil and healthy monsoon season make this island extremely fertile and a range of crops are grown here. The wide and gently sloping southern regions play host to Bali's famed rice terraces, among some of the most spectacular in the world. In the hilly, northern coastal regions, the main produce is coffee, copra, spices, vegetables, cattle and rice. The Balinese people have strong spiritual roots and despite the large influx of tourists over the years, their culture is still very much alive. With a reputation as being one of the most beautiful and diverse tourist spots in Asia, Bali attracts almost 1,000,000 visitors a year, from all around the world. You will have a pleasant trip to Istanbul.

We would like to welcome you to the fourth IEOM Conference and wish you a wonderful time in Bali!

With best wishes,
