Tom Gaasenbeek is the Founder and CEO of Nexas Networks Inc. and five other companies over the last 29 years. Nexas is a Canadian based high-tech Company that specializes in leading-edge manufacturing connectivity solutions for the shop floor.
Since co-founded Memex Electronics Inc. in 1992, Tom has been the visionary leader, and CTO dedicated to “internetworking” machine tools on the factory floor. Under Tom’s leadership, his engineering teams successfully developed technologies that open closed CNC control architectures (such as Fanuc), and he was installing his embedded IoT solutions in the marketplace already when the term was coined in 1998.
Starting as a member of the Open Modular Architecture Controls Group (OMAC) in 1998, Tom led the Global HMI development team from his public company e-Manufacturing Networks, which created the first machine tool XML schema for HMI, OEE and Lean Manufacturing applications in 1999 that is today called MTConnect. Tom has filed patents in the area of Energy Management and Dynamic Computer Assisted Machining (DCAM), authored numerous articles in trade journals Industry 4.0 and IIoT areas, and spoken at AI conferences as to its importance in the manufacturing sector.
Further, Tom has been a speaker about the adoption of AI and AR on the factory floor as well. In 2018, Mr. Gaasenbeek was named to the Top 50 in North America by Smart Industry Magazine for his co-founding of the widely adopted ANSI standard called “MTConnect”. Tom also authors a blog called “CIM Today” that promotes Computer Integrated Manufacturing, and it has had over 70,000 readers since it started.
Also since 2013, Tom has been the Executive Director of the Advanced Technology Think Tank which was founded in 1962. Tom works with McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute in Hamilton and Concordia University in Montreal at the moment.

Sustainability Entrepreneurship for Rural Bangladesh
Dr. Rafiqul Islam has over 22 years of professional experience in development and application of heating, cooling, ventilation and refrigeration, water and mechanical building services systems, energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate action, and sustainability for the built environment. He developed several innovative energy-efficient products among which six are patented as the sole inventor having refrigerated heat exchange technologies. I masterminded technical concepts as well as completed R&D projects through to commercialization including the development of production process, compliance, marketing, field trial and sign off. Managed all patenting processes. Dr. Islam developed and patented an unglazed solar collector used as a heat source for heat pump (refrigerated) water heater. The single design maximized heat gain between day and night, by maximizing solar and sensible heat collection during the day and sensible and latent heat collection during the night. He developed Refrigerated Solar Heat Pump Water Heater at Rheem Australia received the Australian Green Plumbers Best Energy Efficient Product award in 2002. The condenser heat exchanger design was patented and obtained the best overall Renewable Energy Credit (REC) at that time and first place in green plumbing product competition.

Optimization for Modeling Smart Manufacturing and Process Management in the Industry 4.0 Era
Dr. Md. Haider Ali Biswas is currently affiliated with Khulna University, Bangladesh as a Professor of Mathematics under Science Engineering and Technology School and he served as the Head of Mathematics Discipline from 2015 to 2018. Prof. Biswas obtained his B Sc (Honors) in Mathematics and M Sc in Applied Mathematics in the year 1993 and 1994 respectively from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, M Phil in Mathematics in the year 2008 from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Porto, Portugal in 2013. He has more than 22 years teaching and research experience in the graduate and post-graduate levels at different public universities in Bangladesh. He published Three Books, Seven Book Chapters and more than 200 research papers in the peer reviewed journals and international conferences. Prof. Biswas supervised (is supervising) more than 80 undergraduate students (Undergraduate Project Thesis), 30 MSc Students (MSc Thesis and Project Thesis), 3 MPhil Students and 5 PhD Students at Different Public Universities including Khulna University in Bangladesh. Prof. Biswas has worked at several R & D projects in home and abroad as PI and/or Researcher, particularly he conducted several research projects funded by Khulna University Research Cell, the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and The World Academy of Science (TWAS), Trieste, Italy. His present research interests include Dynamic Optimization, Optimal Control with Constraints, Nonsmooth Analysis, ODEs and Dynamical Systems, Mathematical Modeling, Inventory Model in Production Management, Mathematical Ecology, Environmental modeling and Climate change, Mathematical Biology and Biomedicine, Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases. Since the last ten years, Prof. Biswas has been working on the applications of mathematical models for designing and implementing those to real life problems, specially for the sustainable/optimal management under the changing environment due to global warming. He is the life/general members of several professional societies and/or research organizations like Bangladesh Mathematical Society (BMS), Asiatic Society of Bangladesh (ASB), Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), UK, European Mathematical Society (EMS) and Society for Mathematical Biology (SMB). Dr. Biswas is the founder member of Mathematical Forum Khulna and served as the General Secretary of the Forum in 2013-2015. Dr. Biswas organized several national and international seminars/workshops/conferences in home and abroad and he has been working as Editor/Member of editorial boards of several international peer-reviewed journals. Professor Biswas delivered more than 50 Talks as Keynote/Invited/Plenary/Panel Speaker at several international conferences/seminars/workshops in home and abroad. Tawanda Mushiri is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. He is a Corporate Member of the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers.
His research interests are in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in Machines and the Health sector.
For his PhD, he did artificial intelligence for reducing machinery failure in industries and was obtained at the University of Johannesburg in 2017. He possesses a Masters degree in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management, which he completed in 2012, and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering in 2008 all from the University of Zimbabwe. He is currently reading for an MSc in Medical Physics at National University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe (2019 – 2021).
At the University of Zimbabwe, he is Coordinator of Biomedical Engineering in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, teaches Robotics, Artificial Intelligence related courses in the departments of Biomedical and Industrial and Mechatronics Engineering. He is also the coordinator of final year Undergraduate projects and Master of Science in Mechatronics and AI.

He earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering at the University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1999. He earned his M.S. in Industrial Engineering at the University of Sao Paulo, Sao Carlos, Brazil, in 1993. He received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering at the University of Sao Paulo, Sao Carlos, SP, Brazil, in 1990. Currently, he is Editor-in-Chief of leading Brazilian Industrial Engineering journals, Gestao & Producao. His research interests are supply chain performance measurement systems, performance measurement systems for sustainability, maturity models for performance measurement systems, and application of big data analytics in performance measurement systems for Industry 4.0.

Christina Schmidbauer is a University Assistant in the field of Human-Centered Cyber-Physical Production and Assembly Systems (HCCPPAS) at the Institute of Management Science at TU Wien, Austria. As a phd candidate in the field of “Mechanical Engineering – Economics”, she works on “Adaptive Task Sharing between Collaborative Robots (cobots) and Humans in Manufacturing” within the doctoral college “Trust Robots”. She teaches cobot technology in the Pilot Factory for Industry 4.0 at TU Wien and works on digital learning content on that topic. In 2021, she leads the activity “DeCoTe – Democratizing Cobot Technology” within EIT Manufacturing (funded by the European Union). She holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc) in “Production and Management” and a Master of Science in Engineering (MSc) in “High Tech Manufacturing” and has several years of work experience in the automotive industry.

Title of the speech “Human Factors and cognitive ergonomics in industrial HRC: challenges and opportunities”
Federico Fraboni holds a Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Bologna and conducted extensive research on psychosocial characteristics related to Human Factors and human-technology interaction. He has a background in Work, Organisational, and Personnel Psychology. He participated in many European-funded research and innovation calls as well as collaborating with private companies in internally funded projects. He is currently a researcher in the Human Factors Risk and Safety research unit of the University of Bologna, focusing on human-technology interaction, human-robot collaboration, and safety in high-risk organizations. His main research interests are cognitive workload, technology acceptance, human-machine interfaces, and risky behaviours at work.

Bio: Loris Roveda (Member, IEEE) received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy, in 2011 and 2015, respectively. He is currently a Permanent Researcher with the Scuola Universitaria Professionale della Svizzera Italiana (SUPSI), Istituto Dalle Molle di studi sull’Intelligenza Artificiale (IDSIA), Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Manno, Switzerland, working on AI and ML techniques applied to industrial robotics (such as robot control, human–robot collaboration, and dynamics identification). He has been involved in many national and European projects. He is now coordinating the EUROBENCH STEPbySTEP project, the EUROBENCH XSPINE project, and the EUROBENCH REMOTe_XSPINE project. He is also the P.I. of the H2020 CS2 ASSASSINN project.
