IEOM Society International addresses the issues of Global Engineering Education. There are various levels of readiness of engineering graduates from various parts of the world. One of the main themes is how to reduce the readiness gap of engineering graduates around the world. The special focus is given to Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering including Engineering Management. Are the engineering graduates ready to take on the challenges of the current global economy? With the great success of Global Engineering Education Series of last IEOM conferences, IEOM Harbin Conference will have a dedicated session for the 23rd Global Engineering Education where distinguished speakers will discuss the readiness of engineering graduates for workforce around the world. Thirty six featured speakers will be from various part of the world to address engineering education challenges and opportunities.

A Masters and Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Mississippi State University, USA. Before joining Kenco, Dr. Vadlamani worked at other global supply chain companies like APLL and XPO.
Dr. Vadlamani has passion for applying operations research, machine learning (ML) and artificial (AI) intelligence to solve complex supply chain problems. Dr. Vadlamani has seven years of experience applying ML and AI for problem solving.
Dr. Vadlamani has published at multiple journals and conferences and teaches data science and analytics to people around the globe. His research interests include networks, wireless sensor networks, wireless ad-hoc networks, supply chain networks, network interdiction, location problems, transportation, and meta-heuristics.

Kalaivani Chellappan an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia since Nov 2011. Specializes in Healthcare Engineering. Her current research interests are Cardiovascular Engineering Modeling, Internet of Things in Healthcare and Data Modeling & Analytics. She obtained her BEng (Electrical & Electronics) in 1995 for Universiti Sains Malaysia and MSc (CompSc) in 2001 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She was conferred a PhD (Engineering) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2009.
Kalaivani’s appointment as a Committee Member of the Telemedicine Development Group (TDG): Special Interest Group (SIG) by the Ministry of Health endorse her 15 years of research contribution in Healthcare Engineering specializing in Cardiovascular Engineering and tele-health based healthcare service development. The recent prototype grant awarded in Dec 2019 for Digital Malay Auditory- Cognitive Wellness Trainer to be developed and launched by year 2021 for the use of the ageing society of Malaysia. 9 out of 10 IP filed are in the field of Healthcare Engineering.
Kalaivani’s passion towards education development has been recognised by Selangor State Education Department which has engaged her has the STEM – IoT Mentor for Sepang District. She has engaged with Sepang District schools since 2016 in developing secondary school students towards IR 4.0 knowledge pillars by mentoring and university-school engagement program. Lately the Ministry of Education has appointed her as the Digital Maker Hub Trainer for Sepang District schools.
Since joined UKM in 2011 Kalaivani has secured RM 7.08 million worth of grant from university, government agencies, industries and international funders. Kalaivani has filed 10 IPs in UKM as part of her research contrition. There are 3 patent and 6 copyrights and 1 trademark. Kalaivani has successfully supervised a significant number of postgraduate students, including PhD by research (7 completed, 6 on-going), and MSc by research (6 completed, 2 on-going), MEng by coursework (33 completed, 3 on-going) and Bachelor degree final year project (106 completed, 2 on-going). Kalaivani has a total of 139 publications consisting of 47 journals (20 ISI, 18 SCOPUS, 9 other indexes), 38 proceedings (12 ISI, 11 SCOPUS, 54 non-index). Many of her articles are published in high-impact journals (12 Q1 journals, 1 Q2 journals, 2 Q3 journals & 5 Q4 journals).

Gürsel A. Süer is a professor in the ISE Department at Ohio University. He has obtained his BSIE and MSIE degrees from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey and PhD in IE from Wichita State University. He is on the editorial board of various journals. He has co-chaired two Computers and Industrial Engineering Conferences (1997-Puerto Rico, 2005-Istanbul), ANNIE Conference in 2009. He also initiated Group Technology/Cellular Manufacturing Conferences which were held in 2000-Puerto Rico, 2003-Ohio, 2006-Netherlands, 2009-Japan. He is also organized a workshop on CM/SERU in 2016 Ohio. He was the program chair for FAIM 2018 Conference held in USA and program co-chair for ICPR to be held in Chicago in 2019.
He has consulted various companies such as AVON, HP, General Dynamics, Ocular Science, Lifescan, Circo Caribe, Allergan America, Excel, Vornado, and carried out several funded projects sponsored by MVESC, TS Trim, Ohio University, NSF, AVON, Checkpoint, and Timberland. Most of his research has been motivated by his experiences and observations in industrial settings. His main interests are applied scheduling, manufacturing system design, supply chain, vehicle routing, logistics, applied optimization, decision making, genetic algorithms and hybrid systems, intelligent systems with human component, modeling competitive business strategies. He has offered workshops in Intelligent Manufacturing and Logistics and Cellular Manufacturing in various International Conferences and gave key note speeches. He has edited seven Conference Proceedings and four special issues with different journals. He has published over 60 journal papers, published 20 chapters in edited books, about 80 refereed conference papers, about 40 conference papers, and made 50 presentations. He also edited a book on cellular manufacturing in 2017.

Claudio Freitas will be joining the Department of Rayen School of Engineering in the College of STEM at Youngstown State University as Lecturer in Engineering Education this upcoming fall 2021. Claudio holds a Ph.D in engineering education at Purdue University. He also holds a B.S. in Mechatronics from Higher Education Institute of Amazonia in Brazil, and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Campinas in Brazil. He is a former senior engineer with +7 years of industry experience in embedded and electrical systems. He led the development and implementation of the hardware-in-the-loop testing laboratory from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in Brazil. He also developed award-winning educational technology tools for humanitarian settings. As a researcher, he has done interdisciplinary research, curriculum design, and instruction in engineering design in displacement settings in Jordan and Kenya. His main research interest lies in the intersection between engineering, technology, and society. He has won several industrial and academic awards, including the Young Scientist Award from the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy, best paper selected by the Duncan Fraser Award from the Research in Engineering Education Symposium 2019, and selected as part of the “Future Entrepreneur Initiative” supported by the Redempreendia program. He has co-authored 3 journal publications and more than 17 conference papers. He served as the President and Global Student Forum international chair for the Student Platform for Engineering Education Development which aimed to provide a student voice to the global engineering education community. He also co-founded an award-winning organization called Student Chapter of the Brazilian Automation Society which aimed to foster the integration of students in automation engineering to society. He is a global ambassador of Thought for Food and a member of Tech Task team from Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies.

Dr. Soni is a distinguished faculty of Operations and Decision Sciences at one of the well reputed educational system Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Institute of Management New Delhi. Professor Soni has deep insights into management areas, is also certified Independent Director by Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt. of India and works as a consultant to wide aspects of energy (particularly wide dimensions of conventional and non-conventional forms of security and sustainability), energy–environment nexus, India’s strategic development on energy, role of sustainable technologies to reduce climate change, and technology-based climate change adaptation. More specifically, his research focuses on operations cum strategic management-based modeling approaches to assist development of India as data and knowledge driven society with an equitable and sustainable and qualitative education, energy and also with cleaner and safe environment. He is Accredited Management Teacher by AIMA, conveyor of Innovation Cell, and also Coordinator of Internal Quality Assurance Committee and Centre for Excellence in Innovative Energy Solutions; He teaches Entrepreneurship, Operations and Supply Chain Management related courses.
His innovative research intending to optimal solutions for objectives of several GDP dependent, both SME and service sectors working towards reforming India’s rural economy, specifically through academic deliveries are leverages by his deep industry rich experiences, all of which he gained with his wide gamut of experience with Government, Public Sector Units and Corporate, particularly on National Educational Programme for creating awareness for enhance energy efficiency under the National Action Plan for Climate Change. Renewable energy and energy efficiency, the politics of large-scale energy infrastructure, designing public policy to improve energy security and access to electricity, and building adaptive capacity to the consequences of climate change, all are of his ever green and ongoing research agenda to advocate to management stakeholders.
As a sample of reflection, his research on precise decision on energy has been depicted in several international and national journals/ magazine interviews, few of them include Fundamental and Innovations in Solar Energy, Sustainable Production and Consumption, Indian Journal of Public Administration, International Energy Sector Management, Transforming Government: People Process and Policy, Information Security and Management, and Journal of Advances in Management etc. His research also conferred upon Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence (2017) by Emerald Publishing, United Kingdom, under the category of Highly Commended Paper. Dr. SUN Hongyi holds a Bachelor degree in Computer Science from Harbin University of Science and Technology, a Master’s degree in Management Engineering from the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), both in China, and a Ph.D. in Technology Management from Aalborg University in Denmark. Dr. SUN received a Certificate of Pedagogy in Higher Education from Bergen University in Norway in 1997. He has taught at the Harbin Institute of Technology in China (1986-1990) and the University of Stavanger in Norway (1994-1998).
Currently Dr. SUN is an Associate Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, City University of Hong Kong, where he also serves as programme leader and founding deputy programme leader of the Engineering Doctorate programme in Engineering Management, EngD (EM). His teaching and research areas include the management of technological innovation, manufacturing/operations strategy, quality management, and innovation education. Dr. SUN resides on the editorial board of the International Journal of Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Technology Management, the International Journal of Learning and Changes and International Journal of Quality and Reliability Management.

Dr. Alaa K. Ashmawy is an engineering professor and researcher, a licensed engineering consultant, and a global leader in higher education management. He joined The University of Balamand Dubai in 2021 as Chief Academic Officer, overseeing the university’s academic operations and offerings. He has over 30 years of professional experience in the US, Egypt, and the UAE, in higher education and engineering consulting. He was elected the 2020-2022 President of the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES) and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC). He also serves as Special Advisor to ABET’s CEO, supporting the global engineering accrediting agency with its operations in the Middle East and North Africa. From 2006 to 2020, Dr. Ashmawy was Dean of the School of Engineering at the American University in Dubai (AUD), where he also served as Professor of Civil Engineering. He currently holds a research professorship at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and previously held teaching and research faculty positions at the University of South Florida and Georgia Tech, as well as visiting appointments in Mexico and Egypt. He is the recipient of the 2020 IEOM Society International’s Distinguished Educator Award, and the 2019 IEEE Education Society’s EDUCON Meritorious Service Award. His research in environmental geotechnics and micromechanics of granular materials has been published in leading journals and earned over 1000 citations.Dr. Ashmawy served as Program Evaluator for ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission, and as Congress Ambassador for the Dubai Convention Bureau. He is a member of numerous professional and civic organizations including ASEE, IEEE, ASCE, Sigma Xi, and the American Business Council of Dubai. He earned his Ph.D. and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Purdue University, and his bachelor’s degree with Honors and Distinction from Alexandria University.

Fitra Lestari is currently an Associate Professor and Head of Industrial Engineering Department in Faculty Science and Technology, UIN Sultan Syarif Kasim, Riau-Indonesia. He gained his BEng and MEng in Industrial Engineering from Andalas University (Indoensia) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM- Malaysia). Then, He has continued the Ph.D. project at UTM Malaysia in the field of Supply chain relationships in a downstream sector of the Palm Oil industry. He has published extensively including several refereed journal papers, conference papers, book chapters, and edited reference books associated with Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Logistic, and Performance Measurement. He serves as a reviewer, associate editor and editorial member for several national and international journals. He joins as a member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG), and Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM-society), and member of Indonesian Industrial Engineering Higher Education Organizing Agency (BKSTI- Indonesia). His industrial and government collaborators include Small Medium Enterprises, Halal Supply Chain dan Performance Assessment and Institutional Strengthening of Oil Palm Supply Chains.

Dr. Mohammad Iqbal is currently serving as a Professor at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) under the Department of Industrial and Production. Professor Iqbal obtained his Bachelor of Technology (Mechanical) from Sri Venkateshwara University, College of Engineering, Tirupati, Andre Pradesh, India and M.Sc. Engineering from the department of Industrial and Production Engineering, BUET, Dhaka in 1989 and 1993 respectively. He received his Ph.D. from Dublin City University, Dublin, Republic of Ireland in 2000. Professor Iqbal served as a visiting research scholar at Mary O’ Connor Process Safety Center, Texas A & M University, College Station, Texas, USA in the year 2018. He is the founder lecturer of the Department of Industrial and Production, SUST. He served as the Head of the department for 13 years and Dean of School of Applied Science and Technology for two years. He was the Head of Petroleum and Mineral Engineering Department Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Bangladesh for one year. He has 30 years of industrial, research and teaching experiences. Professor Iqbal’s present research interest includes Virtual Reality, Ergonomics, Industrial safety and risk management, Supply chain management, Renewable energy and Production system analysis and Climate change and environment. He has more than 100 International publications in conference proceedings and peer review journals. He is a co-author of three engineering books namely Surveying, Engineering Materials and Industrial Health, Safety & Welfare. He is a life member of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh. He was the honorary secretary of the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) Sylhet Centre, Sylhet, Bangladesh during 2018-2019. Dr. Iqbal was the Conference Chair of IEOM Society -Bangladesh Chapter held in December 2019. He was the Chair of IEOM Society – Bangladesh Chapter from March 2018 – February, 2020. Professor Iqbal conducted many training programs, seminars, workshops and symposiums at home and abroad. He has been involved in several research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh and SUST Research Center, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh. Professor Iqbal received International and National Awards on research papers presented at different International Conferences home and abroad.

Prof Amr Eltawil is the dean of the School of Innovative Design Engineering of the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), Alexandria, Egypt. He is a professor of Industrial Engineering. He was the chairperson of the department of Industrial Engineering and Systems Management from 2011 to 2018. Prof Eltawil obtained his PhD from Alexandria University in 2003 through a channel program with University of Miami, Florida, USA.
The research interests of Prof Eltawil are in the fields of applied operations research and discrete event simulation. Areas of interest include among others supply chain design and management, production planning and scheduling, service systems planning and management especially container terminal operations and management decisions, energy systems optimization, healthcare applications and call centres, as well as transportation and logistics. Prof Eltawil authored more than 100 papers published in international impacted journals and conferences as well as book chapters. Prof Eltawil conducted tens of training programs for industry on different topics such as on Supply Chain Management, Data Analytics and Business Intelligence, Management Skills, Project Management, as well as Safety Management. Also, he is an Enterprise Resource Planning systems consultant and implementation expert.

Impact of COVID19 on Engineering Education in Pakistan
Dr. Anjum Ali completed his Ph.D. degree in August 1988 from the University of Alabama, Huntsville, Alabama, U.S.A. He has been teaching Electrical and Computer Engineering subjects since March 1978. His first teaching appointment, as a lecturer of Electrical Engineering, was at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, Pakistan, after winning gold medals in each of the last three years of his undergraduate engineering education.
His teaching experience includes twelve years at Mercer University, Macon, Georgia, USA, and about nine years at three different universities in Saudi Arabia. At Mercer University (1988-1999), he was the lead faculty member who developed the Computer Engineering curriculum series, from the first undergraduate course in the area to various MS level electives.
He has also worked, as an associate professor, at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore, Pakistan, from 1996 to 1998. During his stay at LUMS, he developed the computer engineering portion of the CS curriculum, and helped the university transition from the quarter system to the semester system.
He served as the chairman of the Electronics Engineering and Instrumentation Department at the Hail Community College (now University of Hail), Hail, Saudi Arabia, from February 2000 to June 2002. During his stay there, he developed a four-year degree program in Electrical Engineering for the University of Hail.
Dr. Anjum Ali moved to Pakistan in July 2002, and joined Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, as a professor in December 2002. During his stay at KICS, he initiated many research and development projects and won research grants.
He has been a professor of Electrical Engineering at the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, (FAST-NU), Lahore, from May 2005 to May 2018. He was the Head of Electrical Engineering from March 2007 to September 2013, and during this time he developed multiple long-range policies and procedures for the university, which are still in place. He was also the Acting Director, Lahore Campus, at different occasions during his stay at FAST-NU, Lahore.
Dr. Anjum Ali was the convener of the National HEC Computer Engineering curriculum development committee. The HEC committee (NCRC) developed and finalized the 2009 HEC Computer Engineering Curriculum for all Pakistani universities.
Dr. Anjum Ali has taught many EE, CE and CS courses and supervised numerous graduate as well as undergraduate students during his 40 years of teaching career. He has over 30 conference and journal publications. He is also the founding editor of the FAST-NU Research Journal. His areas of current research interest include embedded control systems and computer architecture.
After retirement from FAST-NU, Dr. Anjum Ali is leading a research and development company in Atlanta, GA, USA, as its president and CEO.
