Prof. Dr. Engr. Anwar Hossain since graduation in 1961 from Ahsanullah Engineering college (AEC, now BUET) had been deeply involved with teaching and research & development activities in engineering and technology and contributed significantly towards the developments of engineering education and profession in Bangladesh, primarily in the capacities of Professor, Head & Dean of Mechanical Engineering & Director of Students Welfare (DWS) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), a public sector University; First Vice Chancellor of Islamic University of Technology (IUT), a multi-governmental, multi- cultural, multi-lingual international university established in Dhaka by 57- nation Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) with Head office in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Second Vice Chancellor of Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology (AUST), a private sector university in Bangladesh; Chairman, last Board of Governors, Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Rajshahi (now RUET); Founder President of Bangladesh Society of Mechanical Engineers (BSME) and President of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), the apex body of all the engineers of the Country.
Prof. Hossain was also actively associated in various ways with a number of other educational institutions, research organizations, commissions and public sector corporations in Bangladesh like Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BEAC), Bangladesh University Grants Commission (BUGC), Bangladesh Planning Commission (BPC), Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation (BSEC), Bangladesh Standards & Testing Institute (BSTI), etc. Dr. Hossain was also the Chairman, Industrial Safety Board of Bangladesh, IEB; Member, National Road Safety Council; Member, 6th National Pay Commission; Member & Assessor, Professional Engineers Registration Board, IEB; Founding President, 61 Club of 1961 graduates (last batch) of AEC which instituted Dr. Rashid Professorial Chair at UET; President of North Bengal Samity and pabna District Samity, both Social and Welfare Society based in Dhaka; etc.
At the regional and international level, Dr. Hossain was an active Member of the Executive Council of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), Commonwealth Engineering Council (CEC), Federation of Engineering Institutions of South & Central Asia (FEISCA) and Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries (FEllC). He was also engaged in teaching and research activities for about three years at Mosul University in Iraq and for about one year at University College, London as Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellow. He has more than 40 papers to his credit published in national and international journals primarily related to energy sector. In recognition of his valuable and praiseworthy contributions towards engineering education and profession, Prof. Hossain’s name appeared in WHO’S WHO IN THE WORLD (5th Edition) published by MARQUIS, USA and he was honored by IEB with its highest award, IEB Medal.
Prof. Hossain has a brilliant academic record to his credit. He passed all the state examinations in First Division/Class with distinction, particularly stood First from Pabna Edward College in the combined merit list of I. SC (now HSC) Examination conducted by Rajshahi University in 1957, First with Honors in the Preliminary B.Sc Engineering Examination of Dhaka University in 1958 and Second in the Final B.Sc Engineering (Mechanical) Examination of Dhaka University in 1961. He obtained MS and PhD degrees from Cornell University, USA in 1964 and 1966 respectively. He was also a very good soccer player and athlete in his school/college/ university and in recognition of his performance he was selected from Rajshahi University for the All Pakistan Combined University Soccer Training Camp in 1957. He is still very active and a regular Member of Kurmitola Golf Club, Dhaka.
Prof. Hossain was born in Pabna in 1941. He has married Shahana Hossain who retired from BCIC as Senior Deputy Chief of Personnel. They are blessed with two daughters, Natalie and Shaolie, both have graduate/post-graduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and also with three lovely grandchildren, Zareef, Zymee, and Zoeya.

Abdullah Talha

Abdullah Mohammad Talha is well-known for being one of the Managing Directors of Noman Group, the largest exporter of Bangladesh among all the categories of Bangladesh.
Mr. Talha received the Commercially Important Person, Highest Category Tax Payer Award, President’s Industry Development Award, and Highest Category Exporter in Terry Towels, Accessories, and Fabrics Manufacturing before the age of 30 years old.
Mr. Talha has spearheaded complex projects in the Noman Group in turnaround, transformation, and modernization, exponentially increasing revenue and profitability in five industries. He led and sponsored the digital transformation of Oracle Inc’s ERP System and secured it by implementing advanced cybersecurity systems in both hardware and software platforms. Subsequently, he has enabled data-driven information systems. He has improved the process with strategy and innovation management. He has managed several successful process improvement projects, which led to both effectiveness in efficiency and financial health development. Mr. Talha is always working on new projects to modernize the industries.
He specializes in strategy, tactics, and operational management, which includes leadership development, people and organizational management, supply chain management, experimentation, knowledge and learning management, innovation management, implementation, finance, and marketing.

Imtiaz Ahmed Choudhury is a professor at the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Choudhury was a professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Malaya (UM), and was with UM from 1996 to 2022. He received his Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), MEng from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University, USA and Ph.D. from Dublin City University, Ireland. Professor Choudhury is a Fellow of Institution of Mechanical Engineers UK (IMecheE), and a life fellow of Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB). He is also a chartered Engineer UK (CEng). He has supervised PhD and Masters students and authored many ISI papers and several book chapters, including working as Section Editor on recent MRW Comprehensive Materials Finishing (Sept 2016).

Title of the talk: Advances and prospects in surface engineering for transforming manufacturing landscape
Dr. Mohammad Uddin is a Senior Lecturer at UniSA STEM in University of South Australia. Right after completing his PhD at University of Kyoto, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in University of California Davis (UCDavis) and University of New South Wales (UNSW).
His current research focuses on innovative surface engineering, bio-manufacturing, design and processing of advanced materials, medical implants, smart biomedical sensors and surgical technology.
Due to growing aging population and undesired medical complications, health care cost and burden across the world is mounting. Therefore, development of emerging technologies is inevitable. Equipped with advanced research facilities and capacity, my lab collaborates with world leading researchers and takes fundamental interdisciplinary engineering and scientific approach to underpin the burning issues with an aim of developing innovative solutions. His research activities are highly supported by intramural and external competitive research grants from industry, state, federal, CRC, ARC and OLT funding bodies. To date, he has secured a total research grant of A$2.2m, thanks to those generous agencies. Currently he leads a research team consisting of 2 PhD, 1 Master and 6 undergraduate project students.
His research complements and supports UniSA’s key theme “Transforming Industries” thus contributing to sheer economical and societal development within Australia and the world. A recent highlight of his research work is development of an innovative surfacing approach to biodegradable Mg implants and smart sensor for healthcare industry. To date, he has published more than 50 articles in high quality and leading journals and conferences. Among are 38 journals, 11 conferences, 1 book chapter, 1 edited book.
His current research projects are:
- Innovative surfacing technique for the manufacture of biodegradable implants
- Surface engineering of advanced materials for improved surface integrity and fatigue life
- Innovative surgical bone drilling system
- Surface engineering for extended wear life of mining drill
- Design and development of smart sensors for healthcare industry
- Modelling and experimental assessment of biomechanics of engineered implants

Green Innovation for Prosperous Society: Identification and Fulfilling Essential Skills Gaps
Dr. Ahm Shamsuzzoha received his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, majoring Energy and Environment from University of Strathclyde, UK and Ph.D. in Industrial Management from the University of Vaasa (UVA), Finland. He also received his Teacher’s Pedagogical Qualification (Professional Teacher Education) from Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland in 2019. Ahm Shamsuzzoha is working as a Tenure Track Professor, Industrial Systems Analytics, School of Technology and Innovations, University of Vaasa and in the research platform Digital Economy. He has been involved in a leading position in a number of European Union projects and nationally funded projects in Finland. He is currently also involved in several ongoing projects both in European Union level and local projects in Finland.
His research interests are mainly focused on supply chain and logistics management, entrepreneurships, innovation management, blockchain, space data, sustainable energy and environment.

Dr. Md Nazrul Islam

Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam is currently working as an Associate Editor (Proceedings) at IEOM Society International, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam received his Master’s degree in Irrigation, majoring Groundwater Engineering from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne , UK and Ph. D. in Biosystem Engineering from Michigan State University (MSU) , USA. He received the “ Distinguished Academic Achievement “ award in recognition of his outstanding academic accomplishment by the College of Engineering , MSU.
Dr. Islam worked on the initiation of a research project on development of an ex -situ biological treatment method for removing arsenic from drinking water as a post doctoral research fellow, in the Civil engineering Department at University of Toronto, Canada. This method was consist of an ex-situ soil based reactor in which reduced metals including Arsenic (III) could be oxidized biologically and adsorbed onto soil particles. Dr. Islam is also interested in applying his knowledge to the design of low cost Subsurface-Flow -Constructed -Wetland (SFCW) to provide access to contaminant free water to rural areas.
Dr. Islam obtained his graduation degree in Agricultural Engineering, joined the Rural Electrification Board (REB) and worked diligently to develop a power use programme for boosting irrigation projects and rural industries in Bangladesh. Then he joined BRRI (Bangladesh Rice Research Institute) as a Scientific Officer in the department of IWM( Irrigation & Water Management), and conducted field experiments on Irrigation and water management for increasing the crop production in Bangladesh .
Dr. Islam contributed to establish a quantitative water management approach for GK -Irrigation Project of BWDB( Bangladesh Water Development Board) . As a result, the overall Water Use Efficiency (WUE) of the GK– Irrigation Project was increased by nearly 25% and it contributed to the food production by producing about 0.1 Million tons of additional food grain in Bangladesh.
Dr. Nazrul Islam authored twelve (12) professional research papers and published in national and international scientific journals.

He has various positions at FCA including Center Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Metrology (Detroit Processing Center- Jeep Wrangler), Metrology Supervisor and Sr. Dimensional Engineer at Jefferson North Assembly Plant (Grand Cherokee & Durango) for last 10 years. Mr. Haq worked as Lead Manufacturing Engineer at Ford Motor Company during 2000 to 2009 including launched all new 2010 model Lincoln closure installation to BIW, 2009 model Ford Flex Door Manufacturing and assembly, 2007 model Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX Hood and Liftgate Manufacturing and assembly and 2005 model Ford Focus Doors, Hood & Decklid Manufacturing and assembly. He was a manager of engineering metrology at Delphi Automotive System for 3 years. Mr. Haq worked as a Lean Manufacturing Engineer at General Motors during 1994 – 1997. Kamrul Ahsan, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in Supply Chain Management, College of Business and Law, at RMIT University, Australia. He obtained his PhD and MEng degree in Industrial Engineering and Management, and B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. He has started his teaching career at Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE) department, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET). Since his PhD in 2003, he has been teaching and leading logistics and supply chain management (LSCM) courses /degree programs in business schools in the international arena. He was a visiting research fellow at University of Missouri, St. Louis, USA and visiting research scholar at the School of Management, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.
He has a strong reputation for his research profile in operations, supply chain, and project management. He has authored many peer-reviewed articles in reputed international journals. His research influences public policy development, informs skills and competency requirements for project management and supply chain professionals, and solves industry problems. He was appointed by the Australian Industry Standards (AIS) to serve on the national Technical Advisory Committee, and successfully developed the transport and logistics training packages for Registered Training Organisations. He has been increasingly recognized by the research and professional community and has received several prestigious awards and scholarships such as the Project Management Institution New Zealand (PMINZ) research achievement award 2011.
His current research areas are supply chain and project management skills and competencies, modern slavery in supply chain, sustainable supply chain, reverse logistics, blockchain and 3D printing manufacturing supply chain.

His research interests include Control, Manufacturing, Industry 4.0 , mechatronics, motion control . He earned his PhD from Catholoc University of Leuven, Belgium; masters from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Bachelors from Lakehead University Canada. Now he is serving as a visiting professor at MPE Dept., IUT, Bangladesh for two semesters.
