36th IEOM Society International addresses the issues of Global Engineering Education. There are various levels of readiness of engineering graduates from various parts of the world. One of the main themes is how to reduce the readiness gap of engineering graduates around the world. The special focus is given to Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering including Engineering Management. Are the engineering graduates ready to take on the challenges of the current global economy? With the great success of Global Engineering Education Series of previous IEOM conferences, IEOM 2022 Dhaka Conference will have a dedicated session for the Global Engineering Education where distinguished speakers will discuss the readiness of engineering graduates for workforce around the world.

Mr. Md. Ashfaqur Arefin is an assistant professor at the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE) at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Bangladesh. Mr. Arefin is a Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) graduate. Before joining DUET, he served as a lecturer at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) and Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). Mr. Arefin’s research interests include advanced manufacturing, green machining, additive manufacturing, and the development of composite materials. He is currently the project director for a UGC-funded initiative aimed at improving the machinability of hardened steels with cryogenically treated carbide tools. Dr. Engr. Md. Anwar Hossain is currently working as a Technical Manager (Repair) in the National Electro-Medical Equipment Maintenance (NEMEMW) & Training Center, Health Service Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bangladesh. He has completed his Ph.D. degree with the Department of Biomedical Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh in 2020. Prior to that, he received his M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering and B.Sc. Eng. degree in electrical & electronic engineering from the Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, Khulna, Bangladesh, in 2012 and 1990, respectively. His research interests include biomedical signal processing and mathematical modeling of clinical engineering approach to evaluate quality of the patient care and sensor devices for wearable health care monitoring. Dr. Hossain is the receipt of several awards. He is founder Secretary of Clinical Engineering Association of Bangladesh (CEAB) and he plays the key role to represent Bangladesh in international forum. He has published more than 26 top-tier journal articles.

Challenges in Engineering Education
Mr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman is working as Sr. Assistant Professor and Head Department of Textile Engineering, World University of Bangladesh, as well as the team leader of the departmental quality assurance cell and the chairman of the curriculum committee.
At present, Mr. Rahman is a Ph.D. Fellow of the department of textile engineering, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET). Md. Mostafizur Rahman graduated from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Textile Technology. He completed the Master of Science in Textile Engineering from Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University. Mr. Rahman also served as the chairman of the Self-Assessment Committee, Department of Textile Engineering in 2017 -18 under the higher education quality enhancement project (HEQEP) of the University Grants Commission and has enough experience to design and review the OBE curriculum, course profile, assessment strategy and also overlooks the activities and professional development of faculty members.
He has published several papers in international journals and also published book chapters under a publisher: Wiley – Scrivener. Md. Rahman has research works on various chemical treatment effects on fabric properties, the effect of ultraviolet protection finishes, the effect of yarn quality on fabric properties, natural polymer based composites, etc. Mr. Rahman is interested in research in the following area: • Biodegradable composites • Medical textiles • Modification of cotton fiber with synthetic polymer • Modification of jute fiber.
Mr. Rahman started his career as a senior executive (R&D Department) at Interstoff Apparels Ltd. Gazipur, Bangladesh in 2008 before moving to the World University of Bangladesh as a Lecturer in 2010. Mr. Rahman was born in Pabna. From childhood, he was interested in Football, Cricket, and Badminton. Besides his professional life, he has actively engaged with social welfare organizations.

Dr. Md. Shahadat Hossain Khan completed his PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia. He has been working as a Professor of the department of Technical and Vocational Education (TVE), at the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh, since 2018. He has been working (teaching and research) in TVET sectors since 2004. He was awarded Australian Leadership Award Scholarship (Australia), Graduate Research Scholarship (Brunei), Skill-Road Scholarship (Seoul University, South Korea) based on his outstanding academic results, teaching and research expertise. His research area mainly explores on two wide directions: Technology education and TVET sectors. More specifically, he has a wide experience on ICT-enhanced teaching and learning, Curriculum development in tertiary level, Professional development particularly focus on scholarship in teaching (student-centered teaching, ICT-integration, flipped classroom pedagogy during COVID-19 & Beyond) at national and international levels. In TVET sector, he is researching on TVET pedagogy, technology integration in TVET sectors & eTPD Model, and TVET reforms. Currently his research also focuses on TPACK (Technological, Pedagogical, Content, Knowledge) Framework in national and international contexts. He works as an international editorial member of many indexed journals. His research works published in the TOP RANKED ISI/SSCI indexed journals. Hence, his published journals and books chapters have already contributed internationally. BRIEF CONTRIBUTIONS: RESEARCH GRANT-(i) International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canadian Government selected a research grant to Institute of Education and Research (IER), University of Dhaka, Bangladesh under a consortium of four more countries Nepal, Bhutan, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste, for conducting a research project titled as “Students’ participation and learning achievement at secondary level during pandemic and beyond: Impact of Gender and Inclusive pedagogical approaches”. Value: $ 1176470 (Canadian Dollar); (ii) General Directorate of Foreign Economic Relations of the Ministry of Development of the Republic of Turkey selected me as a lead researcher for conducting a research project titled as Skills Development in the OIC Member Countries: Vocational Education. Value: US$ 68,500.00; (iii) I have been awarded as Alumni Support Grant “From Theory to Practice: Establishing a Community of Practice (COP) to support Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion” by the Australia Government from Nadia Simpson, Deputy High Commissioner- Australia High Commission Bangladesh (2022). RESEARCH OUTCOME: (I) I developed five teaching approaches (ICT-enhanced) based on intention and strategy framework, which is a new innovation in the area of teacher education. It was published in the top SSCI indexed journals (ISI/SSCI indexed Journals: Higher Education & Instructional Science). (ii) My recent work provides useful empirical evidence for minimizing the gap between teaching in tertiary education and workplace practices (SSCI indexed Journal: Journal of Educational Computing Research). (iii) My collaborative research work provided a new approach in understanding TPACK framework particularly when a teacher is planning to use ICT in teaching and learning which was published in another SSCI indexed journal (ISI/SSCI indexed Journal: Australasian Journal of Educational Technology). This piece of work contributed new insights towards existing knowledge that extended the TPACK framework. (iv) Teachers’ Attitude Towards Technology: we examined the trainee teachers’ attitudes toward technology adoption and use in tertiary engineering education. The Computer Attitude Scale (CAS) was extended by including the social influence component, to examine whether social norms affect the acceptance of technology by teachers that is published in the SSCI indexed Journal SAGE Open (iv) Guest Editor, Special Issue on: Emerging Technology in Teaching and Learning: Cases from Developing Countries, International Journal of Smart Technology and Learning.

Mr. Arif started his career as a Production Engineer in DIRD Felt Limited (a concern of DIRD GROUP), which is renowned as the largest UV Stabilized Non-Woven Geotextile manufacturer in Bangladesh. He is a researcher in the field of Industrial Software Development in statistical Quality control, Data science, operations research, etc. His research interest includes Product Diversity in Non-woven Technology in the Textile & Apparel Sectors in Bangladesh, stochastic programming with uncertainty, and Machine Learning. Currently, Mr. Arif is currently working on several projects to design a closed-loop supply chain network considering stochastic programming under certainty.

Recently, he has been selected for the MIT Innovation Leadership Bootcamp 2022, U.S.A from Bangladesh. He also selected for Junior Research Fellow, SPARRSO, Ministry of Defence, Bangladesh. There, he will lead his research work entitled “Design and Fabrication of An Intelligent MARS Rover Curiosity Robot”. He has completed his undergraduate thesis work on ‘IoT Based Mechanized Industrial Automation Robot”. He solved the global supply chain case competition case on “FMCG Products” and received 60% Scholarship from ISCEA in 2021. He and his team members business case solution took their team in the Global Hult Prize Competition “On Campus 2020” Final.s His research work entitled “IoT Based Mechanized Robot; An Integrated Process Involving Multipurpose Control, Automation and Surveillance System” has been published in the “IEEE International Conference on Service Operations and Logistics, and Informatics, SOLI-2021”, Singapore. It achieved the prestigious “Best Paper Award” and was declared as a “Global Winning Team” in that International Conference out of 84 finally selected teams for live camera presentation around the whole world. He have received MIST Best Engineering Project (ME Faculty) Award from respected “Education Minister of Bangladesh” on 27 January 2020. Prof. Hossain has a strong passion on electronic engineering which he used to get more than several years Teaching and professional experience, especially in the field of integrated optics and applied electromagnetics. He conducts both the theoretical and experimental research on several interdisciplinary areas. His primary focus has been on the optimized design and fabrication of optical waveguide devices considering the thermomechanical issues (stress-induced effects). The work involved the processing of polymer materials, thin film preparation and their nano-/micro-/macro-scale characterization, lithographic technique and extensive application of FEM analysis. As a natural evolution of his research experience, numerical modeling has taken a prominent importance in his research interests. He has carried out such modeling work in several separate directions including process modeling, heat transfer analysis, optoelectronic packaging as well as more recent work on microfluidics, modeling of hemodynamics and SPR based biosensor design using MSc Marc and COMSOL Multiphysics. Meanwhile he is interested on interdisciplinary approach to solve biomedical engineering problems. The research goals include design and fabrication of implantable optical waveguides for optogenetic applications, implantable antenna for biotelemetry, and optofluidic devices for lab-on-a-chip. He received BS and MS in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from KUET and Ph.D. from City University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Dr. Shamsuddin Ahmed is currently working with IUT, an Organ of OIC. He graduated from BUET, Bangladesh in 1984. He has been in university teaching at CUET (1986-1997), University of Malaya (UM) Malaysia (1997-2015), and IUT (2015-) since 1986. He supervised postdoctoral research, 15 PhD and 20 masters’ candidates. He administered several research projects as project leader (PI) including some high-impact research (HIR) projects. His research team published around 230 journal/conference papers, and received about 4,000 international citations. He delivered a good number of keynote speeches and 100s of public lectures. He is very much engaged with Washington Accord (WA) based Outcome-based Education (OBE) and BAETE-ABET accreditation exercises. He holds CEng (UK) certification, IET(UK) Membership, and IEB Life-fellowship. Currently, he is involved with several Universities at home and abroad and several journals in different capacities.

Professor Dr. Md. Iqbal Mahmud is currently serving as the Chairman in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU), Bangladesh. Prior to that, he served in the Department of Textile Engineering (TE), MBSTU for 16 years and acted as a Chairman of the Department. He has over 18 years of academic and industrial experiences in teaching, research and academic administration. He served as the chair of academic committee, planning committee and curriculum committee of TE department; as a member of academic council, teacher’s selection board of TE, executive committee of different faculty, MBSTU. He served as the head of Engineering Office and Provost of two hall of residences, MBSTU.
Md. Iqbal Mahmud earned B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh. He received M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Kongju National University (KNU), South Korea. Later, he received Master of Business Administration (MBA) major in Human Resource Management (HRM) from University of Dhaka.
He involved in academy-industry collaboration research project and worked as a Researcher/Research Engineer at Sinhantech Company Limited and Daejung High Polymer Industries Company Limited in South Korea. He was invited to attend the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand as a Visiting Research Assistant.
Md. Iqbal Mahmud is a co-inventor of 4 (four) Korean patents, published more than 30 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and participated in more than 30 technical conferences in different countries including 9th IEOM in Bangkok and 10th IEOM in Dubai. He served as session chair/co-chair in different conferences and delivered technical speech as keynote/ distinguished speaker.
He supervised a number of undergraduate and master’s students and completed several research projects funded by the MBSTU research cell. His teaching and research activities have been focusing on Industrial Engineering, Productivity Management, OHS of Industrial Workers, Renewable Energy and ICE.
Md. Iqbal Mahmud is a Life Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB); also member of Bangladesh Society of Mechanical Engineers (BSME), Bangladesh Solar Energy Society (BSES), Bangladesh Association for Advancement of Science (BAAS), Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA).

Abdullah al Mamun is a professional Software Engineer and Researcher. Currently, he is working as a Manager at Robi Axiata Limited. 10 Years of professional job career, he was responsible as Senior Software Engineer of Datasoft Systems Bangladesh Limited and Assistant Director of Primeasia University. He graduated from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) with and B.Sc in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). As a professional Software Engineer, he has experience in analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation of application designing and development platforms, and project management. Also, he is interested in research in Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Pattern Recognition, Hidden Markov models, and Machine Learning. His research has been published in 6 different international journals and conferences, including IEEE. He reviewed a book that was published on Amazon Kindle. He is a member of the Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS) and the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). In his long career, he got different academic and professional excellence awards.
