26th IEOM Global Engineering Education
IEOM Society International addresses the issues of Global Engineering Education. There are various levels of readiness of engineering graduates from various parts of the world. One of the main themes is how to reduce the readiness gap of engineering graduates around the world. The special focus is given to Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering including Engineering Management. Are the engineering graduates ready to take on the challenges of the current global economy? With the great success of Global Engineering Education Series of last IEOM conferences, IEOM Asia Pacific Conference will have a dedicated session for the 25th Global Engineering Education where distinguished speakers will discuss the readiness of engineering graduates for workforce around the world. This event is jointly organized by the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sebelas Maret in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Diponegoro, and Centre for Engineering Education (CEE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, as the initiation of the National Conference of Engineering Education (NCEE) in Indonesia.

Dr. Abu Masud is a professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering at Wichita State University. He has been named the Boeing Global Engineering Professor at Wichita State University. In this new post, Dr. Masud is expected to advance the College of Engineering’s strategic alliances for global enrichment and experiential learning of students as well as international research collaborations and partnerships. He received Duane and Velma Wallace Outstanding Educator Award from WSU College of Engineering. Previously he was held various positions at Wichita State including associate dean, graduate school (2008-2013), coordinator, college ABET affairs (2006-2008), associate dean, college of engineering (2004-2005), chair, industrial and manufacturing engineering department (1994-2004) and graduate coordinator of IME (1991-94, 1996-98, 2001-2004). Dr. Masud has engaged with various companies and governmental research centers including NASA Langley Research Center, VA, NASA/ASEE Summer Faculty Fellow (1991 and 1992), Boeing, Consulting Analyst, and Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research. He is member of Accreditation Review Council (2011-2014). Dr. Masud published book, book chapters, and numerous journal and conference papers. He is registered Professional Engineer at Kansas State. Dr. Masud is an IIE fellow. He received Ph.D. and M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Kansas State University, and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology.

Syed Ahmad Helmi is a faculty member at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Alabama, Master of Engineering in Advanced Manufacturing and PhD in Engineering Education form Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He is currently a fellow at the Centre for Engineering Education, head of the university’s Research Group in Engineering Education (RGEE), and the coordinator for Future Ready Educator (FREE) for School of Mechanical Engineering. Prior to joining UTM, he worked as a maintenance engineer at INTEL, Malaysia, as research officer at the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), and as mechanical and industrial engineer at Sime-Darby, Malaysia. His research focuses on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Education. His recent work includes academic change management, complex engineering problems, virtual reality and spatial visualization, manufacturing systems and optimization, supply chain, and system dynamics modelling. Over the years, he has conducted several workshops on Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) particularly in Student Centred Learning (SCL) throughout Malaysian Higher Institutions, and International Institutions such as in Indonesia, Korea, India, China, Turkey, Morocco, Qatar, South Africa, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Throughout his career he received several awards such as teaching excellent award, excellent service awards, best paper awards, and gold medals in innovative practices in higher education. He has published several books and more than 100 papers in journals and conference proceedings.

From 2009 to 2014, she was a part time professor at some Faculties of Sciences in Morocco. Since 2014, she is a Professor of industrial engineering, at the National School of Applied Sciences (ENSA), Ibn Tofail University, Kenitra, Morocco. She is a member of engineering sciences laboratory-Ibn Tofail University and the coordinator of the research team “industry, logistics, analysis and data protection”. Eng (Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering from Kingston Polytechnic, UK and MSc degree in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Warwick University. Later she continues her PhD study in Engineering Education from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She is currently an Associate Professor at Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. She is also a contract lecturer at Meiji University, Japan; and a special program lecturer at Saffat Academy, Sudan. Her areas of research are in Engineering Education, STEM and Engineering Business Management. Her research and activities have led to publications in books, journals, conference proceedings and articles in the newsletters, and have also qualified her to receive over 20 awards. She has more than 10 intellectual properties. She is also an active committee member of Women Engineers Section (WE) of The Institution of Engineers Malaysia; represented Malaysia for women engineers at the Annual Meeting of Asia Pacific Nation’s (APNN) of International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES). Apart from her other official duties as an academic staff, she is actively contributing back to the society; organizes community activities for the children of Orang Asli, rural and urban poor. Among the main and consistent projects since 2014, as the founder of Adopt a Kampung team, she had developed and implemented STREAM Fun Learning Toy Libraries, which accommodate various STEM Programs with the holistic and integrated concept of Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STREAM) to remote, rural and urban poor communities in several states in Malaysia.

Markus Hartono is an associate professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Surabaya (Ubaya), Indonesia. He received his Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Industrial Engineering from University of Surabaya (Ubaya), Indonesia, in 2000. He received honors with predicate of Cum Laude for his bachelor graduation. In year 2004, he received ASEAN Graduate Scholarships (AGS) award for pursuing his master’s degree in industrial and Systems Engineering from National University of Singapore (NUS) and obtained his Master of Science (M.Sc.) in 2006. In year 2008, he received a prestigious award of NUS Graduate Research Scholarships for 4 years for pursuing his PhD and obtained his PhD degree in 2012.
In year 2011, he received two prestigious awards, i.e., Best Paper Award and Young Service Researcher Award during the 2nd International Research Symposium in Service Management in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. In year 2015, he received Best Paper Award on Quality in Research (QiR) international conference, and third winner of Dosen Berprestasi Kopertis VII and the finalist of Dosen Berprestasi Nasional, held by Directorate of Indonesian Higher Education, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. The subsequent achievement was the recipient of Ubaya Research Award 2014 & 2016 for the best researcher. In year 2017, he achieved the 1st rank of Outstanding Head of Department of Ubaya (Kaprodi Berprestasi Ubaya) and achieved the 1st rank of Outstanding Head of Department in Kopertis VII Region (Kaprodi Berprestasi Kopertis VII Jawa Timur). In year 2016, he got a grant from Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) – Kementrian Keuangan RI (Ministry of Finance Republic of Indonesia) for his international journal publication. Moreover, in year 2016 he received the1st rank of Best Lecturer of Ubaya and the 2ndwinner of Dosen Berprestasi Kopertis VII. The recent award he obtained in 2017 is the Best Paper Award of the 15th Quality in Research (QiR 2017) international conference. In 2018, he was granted as the 1st rank of outstanding lecturer (Dosen Berprestasi Juara I) from University of Surabaya, and the 2nd rank of outstanding lecturer (Dosen Berprestasi Juara II) from Kopertis VII, which is now called as LLDIKTI VII. He also has been awarded Best Presenter – Gold Medal at the International Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Conference 2018 (IMIEC 2018) in Malang, Indonesia. His teaching expertise are in Ergonomics/Human Factors Engineering, Kansei Engineering, product design and management, work measurement, time and motion study, and service innovation and quality management. His research interests are in Ergonomics, Kansei Engineering, product design, work and motion measurement, and service quality management. He has conducted several training/workshop and consultancy works to industries on the topics of time and motion study, work sampling, Methods Time Measurement (MTM), learning curve and Ergonomics. He has published his scientific papers in several top tier (Q1) international journals such as Ergonomics (by Taylor and Francis), International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics (by Elsevier), Total Quality Management and Business Excellence (by Taylor and Francis) and some other reputable journals such as International Journal of Human Factors and Ergonomics (by Inderscience), IEEE Xplore, Procedia Finance and Economics (by Elsevier), International Journal of Services, Economics and Management (by Inderscience) and International Journal of Technology (recently qualified as Q2 journal).
His scientific articles have been cited by more than 620 published scientific papers and showed H-index of 11 (GoogleScholar version), H-index of 6 (Scopus version) and SINTA overall score of 23.32. He is one of the top 10 writers in University of Surabaya. He has acted as a scientific reviewer for the regional and international journals such as International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics (by Elsevier), International Journal of Engineering, Science and Technology, the Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management, and Management Decision (by Taylor and Francis). He was instrumental in introducing a project-based curriculum in civil engineering at Monash University and in several disciplines at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Roger was an Australian Learning and Teaching Council Discipline Scholar and co-author of the Threshold Learning Outcomes for Engineering and Information Technology, and he has been a member of several national learning and teaching projects. She is a retired Professor in Civil and Structural Engineering from UiTM Shah Alam. She specializes in load bearing wall panel structures and engineering education. She has been providing extensive trainings on OBE and engineering education. She has provided impactful contributions to Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Qatar on OBE and quality assurance. Awarded with the Hon. MAFEO, IEM Woman Engineer and more than 20 research accolades. Siti published 14 books in structural engineering and more than 175 technical papers. She holds bachelor and master degrees; and certificate of education from the USA. She completed her PhD from UKM. She’s a PEPC, FIEM, MRM and PSWM.

He Obtained a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Nigeria and master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, University of Nigeria where he is currently on doctoral degree programme. He is a COREN registered Engineer. Before embracing university teaching and research career, Engr Achebe worked several years as supervisor at FRSC License Vehicle Number Plate plant, Abuja, and later the Head of Plant, Delta State Plant for several years. He had published works in peer reviewed local and international journals and conference proceedings. His research interests include operations research and operations management, material composite design and processing, and multicomponent alloys. C.N. Achebe is interdisciplinary savvy.

Paul Amaechi Ozor is currently the Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Nigeria Nsukka. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Production Engineering at Enugu State University of Science and Technology. He later specialized in Industrial Engineering and Management, and obtained both Masters and PhD in the field during 2008 and 20016 respectively. Dr Ozor had been a project manager of a reputable Engineering and Services company in Nigeria for over five years. He ventured into University Teaching and research career since 2009 and have published over sixty (60) research articles in peer reviewed local and international Journals and conference proceedings. Dr Ozor is a scholar of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. He has won and completed the prestigious TWAS-NRF-DST postdoctoral fellowship to the University of Johannesburg, where he is currently a Senior Research Associate. He has visited several countries including Washington DC, USA, Lisbon, Portugal, Shanghai, China, Bangkok, Thailand, Agadir, Morocco, South Africa, etc, on research grounds. He also received his Teacher’s Pedagogical Qualification (Professional Teacher Education) from Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland in 2019. Ahm Shamsuzzoha is working as a Tenure Track Professor, Industrial Systems Analytics, School of Technology and Innovations, University of Vaasa and in the research platform Digital Economy. He has been involved in a leading position in a number of European Union projects and nationally funded projects in Finland. He is currently also involved in several ongoing projects both in European Union level and local projects in Finland. John holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield Michigan where has returned to speak to students on how they may use engineering to solve problems and in doing so create entrepreneurial opportunities.
John has written and been interviewed for numerous articles for industry magazines and books. He has spoken around the North America on topics including public relations, marketing, service diversification and building a management team. John has also spoken for the Department of Homeland Security to the nation’s largest real estate owners on the importance of protecting critical infrastructure from insider threats due to outsourcing of facilities services.
John is proficient in spoken and written Spanish.

Azizah Yusof is currently a research fellow and lecturer in the field of Educational Technology and Assistant Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru Campus. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Master of Educational Technology from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She has taught courses in Computer Network Infrastructure Cabling for engineering students at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Life-Ready Graduate Initiatives (UTM i-League). She is a certified Microsoft Systems Engineer with over 10 years of experience. She has published several research papers in refereed journals and international conferences related to her area of interest. Her current research interests include Service Learning, Online Learning, Gamification, Generic Skills and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in Higher Education Institutions (HEI).
