Keynote VI: Wednesday, August 17, 2022, 10:40 – 11:20 am
Prof. Sarat Singamneni
Mechanical Engineering
Auckland University of Technology
New Zealand
PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, 1996 on experimental evaluation of single point cutting tools and numerical simulations by finite and boundary element methods. There was a period of swaying between academic and entrepreneurial aims, but returned to the academic world eventually, with the attention shifting around teaching, research, and some administration for the past two decades and more, in different countries and diverse academic, social, and environmental backgrounds. Progression at AUT was as a senior lecturer from 2006, the program leader BE (Hons) Mechanical Engineering in 2011, and the Associate Professor role in 2014. Continuously strived during the past 15 years at AUT for perfection and progression towards two main goals: to be effective in teaching and productive in research. The early exploration into 3D printing, the subsequent expansions towards rapid tooling, manufacturing and the additive technologies, the establishment of both the Additive Manufacturing Research Centre for targeted research and the 3D Printing Lab as an open access central facility were the key research initiatives. The infrastructural facilities, strong research teams built, progress in the fundamental research, active engagement with the local industry, the wider national and international collaborations, and funding successes allowed to keep AUT at the forefront of the additive manufacturing endeavors.
