IEOM IUB Student Chapter holds first international seminar on Six Sigma – April 18, 2025

The Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) IUB Student Chapter, under the Department of General Management at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), organized its first international seminar in collaboration with IEOM Society International, USA, on April 18, 2025, at the IUB campus. The seminar focused on ā€œSix Sigma: A Breakthrough Improvement in Quality and Productivity Performance,ā€ marking the chapter’s formal entry into international academic engagement.

The session was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Raisul Awal Mahmood, Acting Dean of IUB’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE). Dr. Ahad Ali, Chief Executive Officer of IEOM Society International, presented global perspectives on industrial engineering and quality improvement. Md. Aqib Islam Chowdhury, Director of IEOM Society Bangladesh, was present as a guest, contributing to discussions on regional industry practices and collaboration. Prof. Dr. Md. Mamun Habib, Head of the Department of General Management and Honorary Advisor of the chapter, chaired the event.

Presentations were delivered by Dr. Abul Bashar, Associate Professor of General Management at IUB, and Khondaker Mostakim Ahmed Fahim, Head of Supply Chain and Procurement at Dabur Bangladesh Private Limited. The sessions linked academic principles with operational strategies used in real-world business settings.

The IEOM IUB Student Chapter was launched in December 2024 by the Department of General Management to strengthen connections between academic study and industry practice in industrial engineering and operations management.

The event proceedings were conducted by IEOM IUB Student Chapter President Tamim Forhad Shuvo and Executive Member Jannatul Ferdoush Oishy. Faculty advisors and Senior Lecturers Seeratus Sabah and Farzana Chowdhury supported the students in planning and execution. The seminar signals the beginning of cross-border academic activity led by IUB’s student body in the field of industrial operations.


IEOM Society International Launches Student Chapter at Independent University, Bangladesh – December 22, 2024

The Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) Society has officially inaugurated its student chapter at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), marking a significant milestone for the university’s Management Department. The inauguration ceremony, held on December 22, brought together distinguished representatives from the IEOM Society International and the IUB community.

The ceremony was led by Prof. Dr. Md. Mamun Habib, Honorary Advisor of the IEOM IUB Student Chapter and Head of the Department of Management. Faculty Advisors of this chapter, Senior Lecturers Farzana Chowdhury and Seeratus Sabah, Department of Management, School of Business and Entrepreneurship, were also present to support the initiative.

Dr. Ahad Ali, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the IEOM Society, and Professor Don Reimer, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the IEOM Society, graced the event, along with Mr. Aqib Choudhury, Assistant Editor of IEOM Proceedings. Their presence underscored the importance of the newly formed chapter in fostering academic and professional growth in industrial engineering and operations management.

Tamim Forhad Shuvo has been appointed as the President of the IEOM IUB Student Chapter, while Ruzzatin Shabila Korshi will serve as the General Secretary. Other enthusiastic student chapter members, including Siratun Nobi Rajon, Jannatul Ferdoush Oishy, Talbia Binta Borhan, Rawshon Jamil, and others also participated in the ceremony, reflecting the chapter’s commitment to fostering student leadership and collaboration.

The IEOM IUB Student Chapter aims to provide students with opportunities to engage in industry-relevant activities, academia-industry collaboration, research, seminars, training, and global networking, aligning with IUB’s mission to nurture future-ready professionals.
